Located near the town center of Mapua this new dwelling is a modern twist on you typical dwelling. The clients wanted something that was contemporary but with a point of difference to the surrounding houses. The house is laid out with an broadside orientation to north with bedrooms split from the main living by a generous width central hallway. The master bedroom is further separated by the garage. Smooth polished floors soak up the suns warmth in winter and carefully sized roof overhangs ensure the house remains cool and comfortable in summer. The exterior is a combination of painted panels, steel and stained cedar which contrasts with the black mortar concrete block work creating a visual rhythm facing the street, punctuated by the defining entrance pergola which is echoed along the front of the house over the large deck space
